Located 25 miles away from Colorado Springs is the little town of Divide, seated at the top of Ute Pass on Pikes Peak, a part of the picturesque Rocky Mountain range. This charming town earned its name because of its unique location, from which the Arkansas river splits and runs down in four different directions.
Divide received its first post office in 1889 when ranching and farming were the mainstays of the economy. After the thriving farming business, the town delved into lumber and brought in business through the Divide Midland’s Depot, linked to Colorado Springs in the East and the mining camps in the West.
Today, the town boasts scenic views, rustic cabins, and large ranches, close to the best nearby attractions and famous cities.
Things to Do in Divide
There is an abundance of things to do and see in the town:
• Mueller State Park: Head down Highway 67, south of town, to get hiking! Mueller State Park is spread over 5,000 acres of terrain, multiple trails, and modern campgrounds. Apart from the breath-taking views, you can go mountain biking, skiing, and horse-backing riding. You can also take part in the many competitions or events that occur in winter.
• Florissant Fossil Nation Monument: To dive into the history of Divide, check out the Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument, with 14-feet wide redwood stumps surrounded by thousands of plant and insect fossils exhibiting prehistoric Colorado.
• The Royal Gorge Bridge and Park: This is a canyon masterpiece built over the Arkansas River. Being 955 feet above the river, this bridge is the second-highest in the world and hosts various events and magic show that you can enjoy.

The town of Divide experiences a continental climate with pleasant temperatures throughout the year and near-freezing lows in winter. Twenty inches of rain bless the area, significantly less than the US average of 38 inches annually.
The town residents enjoy 247 sunny days in the year, which is higher than the US average and is ideal for exploring the magnificent mountain peaks nearby.
August and September are comfortable months with pleasant temperatures and sunny skies, while June and July bring warmer months with temperatures rising to 75 degrees Fahrenheit.
Winter lows drop to 9 degrees in December and January and bring about 100 inches of snow per year, glazing over the mountain peaks and inviting residents for skiing and snowboarding!
Education
Since the town of Divide is a rather small one, there are few schools in the vicinity. Summit Elementary School and Teller County Christian School are in the community with other schools in nearby areas. There are also plenty of PK schools in Divide, such as the Summit Pals Pre-School and Camp Iana Day School.
Just 8 minutes away from the town, in Woodlands Park, there’s a plethora of middle schools, high schools, and universities, along with many well-respected colleges just outside the city. The Charis Bible College and the University of Colorado are some of the colleges located nearby.
Public Transportation
People of the town often get around by using their bicycles or walking on the many multi-purpose trails. For those that need to commute outside of town, the Cripple Creek Bus Transit stops by in the area at specific times and heads to nearby cities, including Cripple Creek and Victor.
The closest airport is the Colorado Springs Airport, which is around 36 miles away from the heart of the city. The Denver International airport is 111 miles, but you can take advantage of their shuttle service to get you there quickly.

The town of Divide covers 0.336 square miles of rich natural terrain and mountain life that brings actions and outdoor adventures every day! Plenty of stores line the roads, as well as multiple restaurants, grocery stores, a post office, a local brewery, and a gift shop.
The area is home to twenty-four businesses, including local choices, that have employed 63 percent of the total population. While the unemployment rate is on the higher side, job growth is positive with booming industries, such as agriculture and tourism.
